Why we need NASA

I found this via a Forbes article ‘A Look Inside SpaceX’s Reusable Spacecraft, Dragon‘ and ‘5 Horrifying Facts You Didn’t Know About the Space Shuttle‘ by Carol Pinchefsky.

Impressive view of the inside of the Dragon capsule. Then you think about Star Trek Enterprise, and recognize how far we have to go to get to a Star Trek Enterprise type craft.

And I find myself defending NASA.

All that engineering, life sciences, navigation & communication systems, material sciences never mind the need to invent a totally unknown propulsion system.

It is not enough to tie a rocket engine to a tube, and say we have interplanetary travel! Never mind interstellar travel.

Comments welcome.
